    Default Riverside, Newcastle

Anyone heard anything about this venue - obviously the name's familiar but I don't even know if it's in the same building. Got some very interesting stuff coming up - Villagers, Coral, Charlatans (acoustic) .....

It's got nowt to do with the 'original' Riverside, which was on Melbourne Street, this one is half a mile away next to the Swing Bridge, in what was 'Sea' nightclub.

After the chain that owned Sea went bust, either the administrators or whoever has bought the company decided to aim it at the student/indie market and nicked a name they thought would be familiar to music fans throughout the north east.

I've not been, but apparently all they've done is stick a stage and a bigger sound system in the club. From what I hear the rebranding is not going well at all, with very poor crowds for most of the gigs they've put on there.

Incidentally, there's a book about the original Riverside coming out this October, with people's pics and recollections of favourite gigs there.

The original Riverside punched so far above it's weight in the calliber of the bands it hosted, it was unreal.
