Yeah, the sympathy shown towards his plight in some quarters will now surely evaporate. It looks like the stripey hole for him now.

What a strange and illogical comment. because he's done another thing wrong, all sympathy for him will vanish. As if compassion is turned off like a tap. I have huge sympathy for him as a mentally ill person, and I fully expect him to go on and do stuff like this. I don't however, condone or sympathise with his behaviour - but I do understand it is linked to his illness.

I had symapthy, and still do, for Marylin Monroe. Mentally unstable and out of control. It eventually led to her untimely death. She did everything pretty much that Gazza does now. I guess there is some difference in respect of the fact that she had great tits, and his were plastic.

Well that's nice of you to admit you're ill but I still don't believe he is

Bob, I have to admit to playing devil's advocate a bit with Gascoigne.
I actually have great sympathy for anyone suffering with mental illness.

It's possible that he's ill but it's also possible that he's just a bit thick and has far too much time and money on his hands ...... it just irritates me that famous people are sometimes automatically excused behaving stupidly by their supporters.

Eventually there must come a time when people say, 'this just isn't acceptable any more', which was a long time ago in my case.

I never said that at all. I said that sympathy shown towards his plight in some quarters will now surely evaporate. Some people have been prepared almost to overlook the gravity of his drink-driving offences because he is ill and needs help. Fair enough - but now dabbling in Class A drugs as well? How forgiving are people expected to be?

Of course he needs help - but he is clearly loath to seek it himself and so he will probably be given the shove of a custodial sentence or hospitalisation.
