Default £75 to win the cup

I've got £75 on Sunderland to win the FA Cup at the start of the 3rd round at 40/1. Not looking too bad now is it?

However, I could do with a few spread betting tips.

    Educate me SMB.

Bet on us to lose in as many games as we play. £1000 each time.

Get on a betting exchange and lay it off to guarantee a profit-something like this.

You have £75 at 40/1 therefore IF we win, you get £3000. If we don't win, you get nowt.

I saw we are at 7/1 for the cup now. If you LAY us on a betting exchange for £300 the sums are a bit like this

    If we win you get £3000-£2100 (£300 layed at 7/1) = £900

If we get knocked out you get £300 (profit on your lay bet) - £75 (your original stake) = £225

So you can't lose either way-I think that's how it works-the wise SMB will confirm this however.

I would lay off the bet to guarantee a profit, never a bad thing.

Lay it off if we get to the semis! Canny bet but make sure you win some cash either way

    This.

But the OP would have to pay nearly 3k in betfair to cover his lay, which could well put him off.

And the £300 win on bf would be subject to 5% commission

And also you can only lay at 8/1 and above, rather than the 7s

Will come down a bit if we get a home tie today and avoid Spurs

I used to do a bit of matched betting to bag bookies opening offers and I have a back/lay spreadsheet for working out the optimum amounts give or take a few pence either way.

You can currently get lay odds of 8.4 (7.4 to 1) on Sunderland on Betfair, so if the OP took those odds and put £368.25 on it, he would effectively guarantee a return of £275 on the bet. Drawbacks are that in order to lay £368.25 at 8.4 on betfair, he would need £2726 in his account and at the moment there is not enough liquidity at 8.4 and he would have to lay some at higher odds resulting in a lower return and an even bigger balance to cover the lay.

If I was in his shoes I would lay some of it to cover at least the initial stake.
