    Default The Bent Effect.

If Bent does go to the World Cup, what effect will this have attracting players to SAFC? To have an English man in the World Cup squad. Obviously because English players get more attention it looks to be a bigger achievement.

It might help but I think the players Bruce does/will go for would come here anyway without the need to a Sunderland player to be in the World Cup Squad. If hes upping the wages of say some South Americans I can't see them being bothered about Darren Bent going to the World Cup.

I think it might.....with people talking about Bent at the world cup , the constant mentioning of our club may turn a few heads and attract players

    great thread title.

I hope Bent goes to the World Cup and yes I think it could convince some bigger players we may be trying to get. Players such as Ireland, SWP, Bentley maybe even Joe Cole. Although I doubt the last one would come to us either way and he is going to reunite with Droopy at Spurs.

Well if he does actually go then certainly the publicity worldwide if he does get on the pitch will be larger, I can't see the 30 being reduced down to the 23 will change the minds of too many professionals worldwide.

It seems that DB is genuinely enjoying his time here, so to have him involved with the England squad could only have a positive effect on the players he meets etc.

I'm sure the 'seig heil' BNP loonies would question that.
Bent lacks the hue of what they regard as english

Sentiment winning out over reason here I reckon. Having Mbomba, Kilbane and Sorensen at previous world cups didn't bring the footballing elite knocking on our doors. Don't think Bent (and even if he's selected might not get a game) will sway a lt of people even though it will be class to see a Sunderland player represent England at the WC. Who was the last?

any profile raising of the club can only help. But the biggest single factor is being a piece of the furniture in the PL given its massive worldwide exposure. The benefit of never being mentioned in relegation discussions anymore on co-commentary around five continents cannot be over-estimated - we failed on that this season - maybe next we will make that leap...
