Why don't they allow a team to make 5 substitutions?

Three would be compulsory with an option of using 5 if needed. Maybe increase the subs to 8 also :)

Wouldn't want up to 10 subs coming on in the second half. It would end up like rugby union with two efferent sides out there, and football would use them for reasons such as time-wasting and as an alternative to a time out.

There should only ever be one sub and that is if someone is taken off injured otherwise it makes a fucking mockery of the game.
