Default what's your one defining moment as a Sunderland fan?

preferably a game, away trip or whatever associated with SAFC that defines what the club means to you:

For me I always remember the home game v West Ham when we won the league a few days after they won the cup. You simply could't move inside the ground and there was thousands still trying to get in.

or overhearing a conversation between two Bristol Rovers fans about the quality and quantity of our away support before we played them in a midweek game at Bath in the old div3 on one of the coldest nights of that winter.

We were in the Club bar before the game which was full of us daft lot and these two lads couldn't believe it. The conversation went along the lines of 'I can't think of any other club who would bring so many down from the other end of the country, on such a miserable night etc, and they actually went through a list of clubs and couldn't find one to compare with us' ..........brought a bit of a lump in the throat for a minute

I know that's two but f@ck it, it's my topic

The 1977 relegation when Coventry started 15 mins late. Too young for the first relegation to hurt. Next one was painful but I knew we'd be back.

In 77 we didn't deserve it and we were cheated. Hurt like f*ck. Never forgotten.

Mine would have to be West Ham at home 1990 - I was a whippersnapper then and it was probably the game that launched my true Sunderland love, I mean I went to games before that but never really really had the magic feeling I got from that day on. We were awesome, Keiron Brady was just the absolute mutts nutts, he scored one with an overhead kick then took the piss out of the whole Cockaknee team on several occasions Marco scored a quality solo goal and I got a London propelled pie hoyed at me from the corner of the Roker End.... stuff dreams were made of
I remember being shit scared of the coppers as well.....

Default The Charlton play off game

Up and down more time than a Geordie lass's knickers.

Such a downer and disappointment at the end. Typifies being a Sunderlnad fan really.

Got to be Arsenal April 17 1973.

Wasn't there, but remember Frank Bough's face on Grandstand after they'd shown the boat race - as soon as I saw him I knew we'd won. Raced out into the street jumping around like a 12 year old, because that's what I was.

    Or the final

Or one of the many times I've watched the lads bring home a trophy on an open topped bus (Daily Express 5 a side winners once)

    Or Gillingham

    Or Armstrong's header

Or Rowell scoring for the first time in a year against Leeds when we beat them 4-1

    How many's that then?
OK OK ..... I didn't expect some kind of Spanish Inquisi....

Allmost passing out with excitment when Super Kev scored the second in the play off final. And then taking six months to get over losing on penalties.

Also crying with pride when 'abide with me' was sung in 1992. Worst thing was that I could'nt get a ticket and watched on TV. Its still one of my ambitions to watch sunderland in the cup final.
