    Default Daniel Hannan MEP

I've been reading his blog on the Telegraph website for a few months now. Surprising, rather than it vaporising my piss, I find it thought provoking and informative.

While I disagree with some of what he says, I do find myself in total agreement of his condemnation of how the European Union has been implemented e.g. this, as well as his views on quangos.

Most people who go on about quangos have no idea what they are or do. I'm not saying they should or shouldn't be scrapped, it's just that the Tories have dne a brilliant job in convincing people that the reason our economy is fucked is because of the public sector and the associated gravy train that simply doesn't exist.

I have the misfortune of having to deal with several quangos on a daily basis.

It would not be unfair to describe them as overbloated and self-serving, and Hannan is right on the money in his contempt of them.

Well, alot of quangos were set up after the Tories privatised everything back in the 80s. They removed huge numbers of people from the public sector, only to replace them with huge numbers of public sector quango workers, usually with ex-school chums on the boards and committees.

Mate you should be a Grand National winner wearing those sort of blinkers.

Jaxaxe i also have to deal with a couple of them on a regular basis, one of them being a very prominent environmental one. I have 4 contacts there that i have to deal with, who apparently deal with different projects/areas. The areas that i deal with them in all overlap so an appreciation of what each other does amongst them is vital. Guess what, they all work on the same floor in the same building (they only have the one floor by the way), do not communicate with each other, and in one case didn't know who each other were. It is an absolute fucking nightmare dealing with them, and my impression is that there are roles there that can be rationalised. Its a joke mate.

When quangos are spending public money to hire political lobbyists to lobby ministers for ....errrr.... yet more public money to spend, then you know that urgent action needs to be taken.

Yes, why let facts get in the way of a good argument?
