A mate of mine, not me I am a tax dodger, is on the dole but has now got a job starting in April. Can he claim dole right up until his first payday?

I think you can give a sign off date until the day before the job stars... but best to check.

He might be able to claim travel to work for the first month, or some sort of grant to help get him through. Tell him to speak to his advisor. He will only get JSA until day before he starts work like the other lad said.

I think only if you've been out of work for more than 3 months, could be more than 6.

Tell him to post his signing off form through the letterbox the day before he is due to sign. Get him a few extra days dole.
