Marco Gabbiadini getting sold for £1.8 million

Can any of the older lads remember much about this transfer and the events leading up to it, was only 17yo or so at the time and remember very little about it tbh.

Was there much talk of Marco going beforehand and was there many clubs rumoured to be interested in him, was his eventual destination Palace a club that was getting mooted about as wanting him.

Also about the fee, was this type of fee expected. Looking back now seems a massive amount that Palace paid. IIRC there was not many bigger fees that had been paid by a British club for a player

Am I right in thinking Place had just sold Arsenal Ian Wright for £2.5 million

He was a fat bastard by the end of his Roker days and failed abysmally at Crystal Palace. Not that I was bitter.

Palace sold Wright to Arse, we sold Marco to Palace.. Came out of the blue for me, I was gutted....

Saying that, his powers were starting to dwindle without Gates....

IIRC he got a hattrick in about 10 minutes in his last game or 2nd last game, away at Charlton.
The transfer as far as I can remember came out of the blue and may have been a Tuesday.
I was at work, backshift, and someone came in and told me he had gone. I was shocked.

spot on and marco was bought as his natural replacement
didn't work out and he was soon shipped out to derby for 1 million.
i was devestated at the time but we brought in don goodman soon after so i had another hero to worship
i think i was 16 when he left

it came totally out of the blue and I was devastated. I remember they knocked back 1.2m for owers as well; bet they regretted that later.
