Default Loans, The good, the bad and the ugly.

Who has surprised you most as a loanee to the club in terms of turning out to be rather good or utter turd when you didnt expect them to?

I remember when we got Downing on loan from Boro and I'd never even heard of him at the time. He was quality in the time that he spent with us. Antony Le Tallec was utter turd when I expected him to be decent after watching him at some under 18/ 19's tournament where he stood out (mind you Massimo Maccaroni and Hugo Viana looked quality in the same tournament!)

Jonny Evans, never heard of him before he came to Sunderland, everyday I wish he was still here.

Shay Given probably back in the day... some of Mick's loans were a bit odd - expected more of Kevin Cooper than we got and thought Simon Johnson was going to be a little bit better than he was.

Downing and Evans were two of the best, Darren Carter? I think who was from Birmingham wasn't bad!

irrc there was a game where Carter took a knock to the side of the heed and got pulled onto the touchline for treatment, was there about 10 seconds and back on the pitch pulled a mazy little run through the defence and hit the post.

Aye I remember that, don't know if he has done much since, I think he went to west brom?

Like said we had some strange loans around that time, Colin Cooper, Alan Quinn, didn't we also loan a defender from the mags? Or am I making that up?

So did Kevin Cooper. He didn't spend much time on the pitch.
