Default Does Short want to move the club to the next level

or is he happy for us just to stay in the league playing mediocre football on a shoestring?

We are not skint but it seems that all of a sudden we are being very careful with money. Until a couple of days ago I was convinced we would sign a top striker before the window closes, now I'm not too sure.

I think we will struggle to improve on or even achieve 13th without a couple of creative players. We don't really have goals in the side apart from Bent, our defence and midfield rarely chip in with the odd goal so we rely so much on our forward line.

When we sold Jones I wasn't too bothered as I assumed we would have a replacement lined up straight away but clearly we do not, if it goes tits up it could be suicide for Bruce as the sale of Jones will be thrown in his face if things turn bad.

I am normally a happy clapper but I admit I am getting worried, we were promised 2 or 3 players of Bent's quality, now we are told not to expect a big signing.

Bruce said he would now be shopping at Harrods....I remain to be convinced, Riveros may turn out to be brilliant, he looked canny at the world cup and I have been impressed with Bramble but the side is in dire need of creativity.

to be fair to ellis, he must be frustrated at paying your david healys & co as they offer no worth to the club at all. these players need moving on in order to free up funds to bring in new players. IMO the club is being run in the correct manner ever though i would love to see money being spent on better players

Who knows, but I'm pretty sure he doesn't trust his staff until they have proven themselves.

I think the money is there but unfortunately we still have a lot of shite to get rid of. Not easy when some of the shite are on big wages.

Does Short want to move the club to the next level?

No he's put all his time, effort, reputation and money into it because he's a fucking timewaster. If you don't like it buy him out and show us all how it's done.

Why do people set so much store by such crap? If the belt needs to be tightened so be it, until things improve economically I cant say I blame them. Some people on here live in fucking ga ga land.

I just don't see his motives as being anything other than financial, and I don't see any reason why they would be. He's not a Sunderland fan, he runs a fucking private equity fund. Realistically, he has no financial interest in making the club any better than a team that avoids relegation.

I just don't understand why any of this is a surprise, and I never, ever understood why people were so happy about him taking over. He's just another man with a big pile of money trying to make that pile of money even bigger. The top four isn't worth aiming for, and it's only being in the top four that makes significantly more money.

I'm not criticising him for his decisions anyway: I don't think anyone else would do any different. It's not Ellis Short's fault that the Premier League is so hideously uncompetitive.

Shorter this post: football doesn't need you any more, and it doesn't care what you think.

Maybe he turned up thinking we were a club like Manchester United and Liverpool, and realised without risking his personal fortune he has no chance of competing on that level....and is now having second thoughts and is looking for a way out ?

or maybe he just doesn't like the Balti Pies.

    or maybe......wibble
