    Default Car 3-4k budget.

Looking to buy my first car quite soon. I have around 3-4k (excluding insurance, tax etc') for it saved up.

Not looking for anything particularly flash, the most important thing for me will be fuel economy and reliability.

What do you recommend and is it alright to go through autotrader or would you recommend buying from a proper dealer?

Hyundai i10 its one of the few small hatchbacks that don't fall into either chav / girly catagory. Reliable & cheap to insure

had a peugeot 307 with the 1.4hdi diesel engine great car, decent size inside, 50odd mpg, £60 a year road tax, cruise at 90/100 on the mway, sold it at 70000 miles no issues...may get a newer 308 for your budget...the 206/207 has the same engine...autotrader fine plenty reputable dealers on there but you pay a premium
