    Default House Alarms

Another one going off constantly in our street as I type. Seriously, what is the point? When you hear one go off you hardly spring to the door to catch a burglar in the act, they go off so often it's just assumed it's an error. Just a pain in the arse for everyone else who has to endure them banging on until the culprit gets home from work. Burglar alarms, fuck off.

That's the reason I've never ever powered mine on since I moved in. Pointless.

Same here. Although initially mine was more to do with the fact I couldn't fathom the instructions.

On a related note, I once visited a mate of a mates house who had a system in place which filled the room with smoke/dry ice in seconds should the alarm be activated.

    I thought that was canny.

For those that don't put the alarm on you need to tell your insurance company that you don't have a working alarm.

the whole point is that you are supposed to have a friend or neighbour (or neighbourhood watch) type thing whereby someone comes around and looks to see if you have been broken into and then phones the police if there is a break in

I put the alarm on at night. I prefer knowing that if someone got in downstairs i'd be woken up and they'd scarper. Has not gone off in 15 years

Also, we get on with our neighbours and we would always have a quick look if the alarm went off. I'm sure they'd do the same.

This. Not sure what i'd do if it went off like. Probably hide under me quilt for a while.

Back to the original post - surely a burglar would leg it if an alarm went off?

You can get fined if it goes off for too long.
