    Default First Camera

There seem to be a few on here that have cameras but what was your very first snapper.

Mine was an Illford Sporti in the early 1960s. Made in Germany but with an Ilford badge. It was nee Hasselblad like but had 2 aperture settings, Cloudy and Sunny. Ypu can get them on eBay for £4 but doubt you can get film now as it was 127 roll rather then 120 I think.

I had a Kodak instamatic that used the 110 cartriges of film and you used to have to buy packets of flash bulbs to plug into it!!! Then I hand another better one with a built in flash before upgrading to a Kodak Disc camera (remember those? 80s retro cool!!)

I had one of these in the 1970s.

The problem with the viewfinder and lens being some distance apart meant I had real trouble lining up the shots. Head and shoulders at the bottom of the pic and loads of background above. The flash cube was an improvement over the Sporti I had as it had four shots instead of a single shot bulb.

I never had a Kodak Disk camera but that was hi-tech at the time.

First camera I owned, rather than borrowed, was the superb Zenit EM. 14th birthday present, cost my parents more than they could afford, had to work on them for 6 months building up to it. Start of a 30+ year hobby.

If it was cars we were talking about there would be me driving along in my Austin A7

    And you being given a

    bristling with technology.

All in the space of 20 years. Got to thank the Japs for that I suppose. They flooded the market with affordable hi spec cameras.

The "joy" of loading roll film in the dark forgotten. It was shite like.
