    Default Tyne & Wear

Having lived away from the area for well over 20 years now, what is the purpose of Tyne & Wear, what are the actual benefits of being part of it, and what would it take to basically get rid of it and go back to the old traditional county boundaries of Durham and Northumberland etc.
I know a lot of people still regard Sunderland as being part of Durham, so haway any clued up posters on local geography and demographics like to comment on the above.

For once this isn't a wind up either and isn't meant for the tribal amonst us to start beating their chests.

its just an administrative & ceremonial county , there is no t&w council was replaced by the 5 boroughs

cant see a reason to change it back other than the usual local pissing competition....

Because at that point you're entering County Durham I'd imagine.

The other side of the sign will not mention Tyne and Wear, it'll say something like, Sunderland, twinned with Essen and St Nazaire.
