Default Cumbria Shootings. Why did it take so long to find him

Where was the police helicopter, the fucker always seemed to be waking me up at 3 in the morning when I lived up there!

I don't think we have one, IIRC the Mountain rescue helicopter doubles up.

Wish people would stop trying to blame anyone other than the nutter who did it.

    Lay off the police

Who knows, perhaps it was. Why the need for people to blame, it's a large county. The bloke was a taxi driver, he'll have known the area extremely well.

10 of the killings were in the space of an hour.

Oh and it wasnt like he was on foot.

Think the Police did a good job in the circumstances, the majority were turning up to the scenes unarmed. Anyone blaming the police should ask themselves would they go into a situation like that.

By the time it was realised they weren't just isolated killings & it was probably down to a single person & a decision was made to contact other police forces for assistance & the appropriate people to authorise that assistance to be given & then the hour or so to scramble the helicopter & fly over there it would be pretty close to being finished anyway.

Wasn't/isn't the Appleby horse fair on? Diverts a fair amount of (already limited) police resources I would imagine.

Not blaming the police, just wondering why it wasnt utilised, only the bloke himself to blame

They knew the car he was in and track stolen cars in similar circumstances. Once again not blaming them, just wondered why it wasnt used. I thought it went on for about 3 hours????? Saving 1 life would have been worth it

Did a job for a policeman who flies the Durham one, it's shared with Northumbria, and there's loads of restrictions on when and where it can fly.It costs literally thousands of pounds every time it takes off, it can only fly within the limits of its fuel load ( got to have enough to get it back home) and its not allowed to cross into another police force area unless that force accepts the costs. He followed a stolen car through Durham County one night but had to turn back around Sedgefield cos Cleveland Force wouldn't take over the running costs. Restrictions also include pilots rest breaks/ maintenance downtime/weather/visibility/ theres loads of times they can't respond to a call for various reasons.
