In fairness, if our roles were switched last season and they finished a couple of places above us in midtable mediocrity and we thrashed them in the derby, that's what we'd be saying. Painful to admit but true.

If you doubt this...ask yourself whether you would have traded the 3-0 away to Chelsea for finishing above them in the table !

no way, as hard as it is to take I would accept defeat to finish higher in the league, anything else and we are giving them too much importance

Tin hat firmly on but i think they had the bragging rights last season. We drew at our place and they absolutely hammered us at theirs. The comeback of "we finished two places higher in the league" was fairly lame, especially when it wasnt as if we were 4th getting into the CL against their 6th place, it wasnt 16th against their relegation, it was two fairly interchangable mid table positions. Its nice to be able to say we were a top half team, but a 5-1 win at home and a draw away in the derbies would mean a lot more to me than two relatively meaningless positions in the table, maybe i'm in the minority but fuck it. There are occasions where league position means more (like i say, if it means europe or avoids relegation etc) but if its two mid table places, give me the derby success any day
