The Stage is Set
England need to win against India by two clear tests and they will go to number one in the world
Jimmy is in peak form in his prime against the best batting line up around
Jimmy this is your time to deliver and take us to number one in the world

He will need to with Broad lobbing throw downs at the other end.

gotta lead the attack
its ok boosting your avg against the Windies in the rain and wind of CLS in May but this is where you earn your corn
Come on Jimmy lad. With 5 tests in the sub continent during the winter, this is our time

Re: The Stage is Set
EB - serious question.
With a tough winter coming up, what would you class as a success for Jimmy?
I want a number of wickets, and an average.

its difficult to say.
If we get good weather, Jimmy will struggle, if it pisses down like it did for the SL series, Jimmy will do well as others in the press have alluded to
Abroad, again its difficult to say, as you never know what Pakistan are going to do and if there aiming to win, lose or draw a particular test.

Surely set for Broad to rise from the ashes like a phoenix?
Hope this is the series that makes him.
Looking forward to it, should separate the men from the boys.

Factor in all of those variables and come up with an answer, it's not that hard.
I would say 21 against India at 33.

thats not particular good for the 'leader of the attack'
put it another way, if the rest of the side had identical figures, India would be 363 for 10 in the first and second innings of every test or 726 batting only once.
If you do the maths, we wont win many tests if any.
Your strike bowlers needs to be averaging in the 20s

What do you think his figures will be.
Swann will probably be the one who gets his wickets cheaper.
India have very good batsmen and I expect them to dominate in periods. A cheap five wicket haul will be the difference.
You can't average out one stat over another one. He might get 5 for 20 in one match and win the game, then 1 for 100 in a draw on a flat wicket.
