I remember a lot more about Dickie - iirc we all knew he was dicey to say the least, but for some reason people were tolerant of him - he was hardly the modern day attacking full back - though I do remember a 30 yarder that left us all astonished.

Tricky Dicky made some good forward runs and scored a couple of good goals IIRC

Christ those two take me back to the bad old days.

Both got nose bleeds going past the half way line, Cec couldn't hit a straight pass to save his life. Put good wingers on either of them and they were easily beaten.

tricky Dicky gave us more fun (a bit like Noz does , real heart in mouth stuff).

I suppose based on entertainment value tricky dicky was the better to watch, nothing much in it as defenders.

Cecil Irwin getting a nose bleed going past the half way line? I remember his many and regular runs down the wing man, it was his trade mark.

Dick Malone made a significant contribution to our only day of glory in the last 70 years.

Both were decent fullbacks , judged by the standards of fullbacks around in their day .
Grey was supposed to destroy weeklink Dicky in 73 but it never happened.
Mind you wee bobby Kerr had a lot to do with it

And was often seen at the SOL !

I remember Dickie trying to shoot from 30 or 40 yards about once every other match and the corner flags were in more danger than the goals were. We always said "one day" and it finally happened - it was well worth waiting for. I believe the most surprised person in the ground was Dickie himself (closely followed by the opposition goalie))

    Ahh memories .......

Ces was no more than a good grafter and thats being kind

think he scored a 40yarder against Pompey at roker park

he always looked as if the ball was tied to his foot with a piece of string when he ran with it

he would then stop and do drag backs Ronaldo wud be proud of
