Don't work there but surely the shutdown of Thursday Japanese sites would phrase to an increase in work for other places (assuming the same models are made)

Parts shortage I imagine, serves the fuckers right for implementing the JIT procedure.

Hope the lads get full pay mind.

Supply of parts is going to be the problem. NMUK get a lot of their parts form Japan and I daresay that a lot of their suppliers will also have suppliers themselves who will be affected.

Most stuff comes sea-freight but so you would expect supply to be ok for the next 4 - 5 weeks while the stuff on the sea arrives but a missed shipment this week from Japan will mean a hole in the supply chain in say 4 - 5 weeks time. Will need air-freights to fill the holes, but only if the suppliers can still build and ship.....not much concrete info coming out of Japan so don't suppose anyone really knows the extent of the problem NMUK might face....

Lots of rumours flying about, the official line is it won't affect us. But I think we all know that's not the case. A couple of years ago in a cost cutting exercise Nissan cut it's inventory substantially taking just in time logistics to the extreme. So bearing in mind the huge amounts of components imported from japan and the state the Japanese factories and infrastructure is in it must soon affect production here. I may be wrong but I think stand down days are on there way. At least we would still get paid but owe then the time back. I think if it does happen it will be at short notice as senior management will keep their cards close to their chest.
May be totally wrong, just my opinion.
