Wikipedia - Mackem entry
Is it possible to update it?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mackem Pre-80's inhabitants of Houghton and especially Washington had more allegiance with Newcastle and would consider being labelled a Mackam as derogatory.

Post 1992 Newcastle gained a large support from Washington due to mass inbreeding in the Columbia and Concord areas.

Without looking, I am sure you can log in and edit a page, anyones page ? One of the kids I worked with, edited her schools page and called the head teacher worse than shite

I'm not too concerned about editing the text, just wanted to highlight that at least that section of text is disputed.
AFAIK the term was used more regularly to distinguish us from the Geordie Nation. I don't want to go into a massive debate but IMHO the wiki page is a heap of shoite. Ta re: the edit function, I'll give it a whirl. Edit: deleted the sentence that was garbage.
