Sigma 70-300mm f/4-5.6 DG Macro or Tamron 70-300mm F4/5.6 DI LD Macro lens

Hey guys

I'm after a 70-300mm telephoto / macro lens for my Nikon D80.

I'm looking at either a Sigma 70-300mm f/4-5.6 DG Macro(£149) or a Tamron 70-300mm F4/5.6 DI LD Macro(£169)

Which would you reccomend?

Also can anyone tell me if the APO version of the sigma is worth the extra £50(£199) over the non APO version?

I have the Sigma non APO and I think it's a great lens. I looked at the APO when I bought it but couldn't, at the time, justify the extra spend. I have no experience of the Tamron.

I wouldn't take that much notice of Ken Rockwell, the guy is a bit of a joke on photo forums, try looking at Thom hogan site or here for a better review.

I quite like him tbh. Though he is very, very biased towards cheap lenses, to the point where he'll ignore their glaring faults.
