Surprised if he stays at Sunderland 3 years. The reason why he left Villa was because Lerner wouldn't fund another round of duff signings to miss out on the CL. Maybe O'Neil should of been given the funds from the sale of Milner, but he did spend money on a lot of dross.

The same thing will happen at Sunderland. The reason why he's been out so long is because no clubs has funds good enough for O'Neil. He only joined Sunderland after having them commit transfer funds for him. Sooner or later though, Elis Short, just like Lerner will run out of patience, not hand over any more money and O'Neil will run for the hills.

This is what I thought before he took over. Up to now, before any money has been spent, he has done better than I could have ever imagined

If he's here for 3 years before leaving for Man Utd and gets us where we want to be under O'Neill without leaving us with a load of shit, I'll be happy

    Me too!

Short seems to have recognised when to be ruthless so I feel comfortable with him at the helm.

Im quite hapy with incremental progress - Bruce did his best and consolidated us, O'Neill will hopefully push us on but nobody is guaranteed a job for ever in footy.

    Interesting thread ...

Are they going to consider Mick McCarthy as well? Fuck it, how about we throw Big Sam into the mix as well? Alan Pardew - he's pretty experienced. What about good ol Curbishley? Be a sin to leave him out.

O'Neill doesn't manage the money in the deals and not every signing works out in football obviously.

Can't argue with how Villa progressed under him tbh

There isn't half a load of utter bollocks spoken at times.

Be delighted if we keep him for three years. Three years for a manager in football now is the equivalent of forever these days. Tends to only be teams at the top who are that loyal to their man.
