If this is about GSK I posted it earlier - Great News

To be fair it was the patent tax that was the clincher and the corp tax just an added bonus.

GSK made the promise to build again in the UK if a patent tax break was implemented.

He also got his Knighthood in the New Years Honours - there was definately something coming.

The jobs in Ulverston will be a great boost for the north. Its a biopharma plant making additives for vaccines so a solid future at the head of technology.

    my previous post

Credit it where it is due the Tories did create the environment to have it built in the UK by lowering the corporation tax rate on UK owned IP thus promoting innovation - we need more of this type of policy.

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-17465090

"Drugmaker GlaxoSmithKline has said it will invest £500m in manufacturing in the UK, including building a new factory in Ulverston, Cumbria.

The investments could create up to 1,000 new jobs, Glaxo said. The biopharmaceutical facility will be its first new UK factory for 40 years.

Glaxo said it was "one of the largest commitments to the UK life-sciences sector in recent years".

Glaxo also said it would invest more than £100m in its Irvine and Montrose manufacturing sites in Scotland."

Messed up the title - it was meant to have "Jobs" and "North" in it.

Yes - I did give credit to the Tories for implementing it but Labour would have too in all probability - the patent concessions.

Witty was appointed to one of their pharma industry cunsultancy bodies but he was knighted by the Tories.

Knighthood was very quick as he has not been CEO for too long - only since 2008 I think.

Really pleasing to know that in these impoverished times, where jobs, services, pensions and real earnings are being shredded, that we can still afford to subsidise the already massive profits of the pharma giants.

We are all in this together.

You are correct - the decision was not made yesterday.

It would have been made when the patent decision was made a couple of months ago.

Without it the plant would be in singapore, Belgium, india or some other place.

what is not to like - building jobs for a good few years in the north followed by very high quality jobs for a generation.
