    is it true this is a fish counter? i thought it was to sort of control the flow or sumic, just curious....

    they are salmon/sea trout boxes. they are there to make it easy for them to bypass the wiers.

    was often told by me fatha that he used to see the salmon leaping in that part of the river

    aye, its the fish run to help them get up the weir. Seen some salmon last year still hurling themselves up the main weir part. A load of cormorants were having a great time trying to pick them off
