    How do u disable the 3g bit ? Heard that costs a fortune abroad, but wi fi is free ?

    Quick google tells me Settings > General > Network > Slide the 'Enable 3G' switch to off.

    Every time I go away when I turn my phone on it's already set to data roaming off

    Note sure how it works with iPhones specifically but if you can disable the 3g be careful that the 2g aint taking over. It will likely cost the same.

    i got stuck in valancia for a few days when the planes were stopped due to the ash, had 3g on my iphone turned off, used it for checking the footy scores on the saturday and for checking bbc and twitter for updates on the situation etc, came home and got a £200 phone bill after paying £700 to get home - 4 days in valencia turned into a week and cost me a grand and a half.....be carefull, using your phone could cost more than the holiday.

    Clearly never did it correctly then? I went away and used wifi all the time and no charges.
