Religion
On big brother , mr .j.mcrick , stated that you only follow the religion that was knocked into you from birth , i tend to agree with him , but as a non believer , and thinker that Double Maxim is the god of the North East ,what are your opinions of religion - is it what your parents shove down your neck OR are there some that actually decide for themselves , that 1 religion is better than another and oppose their parents wishes?

Re: Religion
The bro-in-law became Catholic in his 50's after a life of gnosticism. I know a few folk who have been baptised in different forms of Christianity other than the one they were brought up with. But you're definately mostly right that you follow a family tradition...for want of a better word.
Ali was a famous convert but in the 60's Mohammad became an icon for black unrest.

Re: Religion
Depends what country you are in. It is easy (easier) to not follow your parents wishes in this country (I, for the purpose of my point am thinking Christian religion), you are unlikely to be cast adrift from your family. And even if a few disapprove your changing from an atheist parental upbringing to you being a follower of a religion, or vice versa, there will be many who will support your choices.
I asked in a Muslim country why all the children were brain washed, and why there were no obvious free thinkers (ie joining another religion or becoming atheist) and was told that they would be cast out of the family and there would be no support for them. Harder to be different I guess. And religion (Islam) is more drilled into you all the time.
