Default Did I hear this right? Bruce wants Stephen Ireland

but the players ridiculous wage demands are preventing anything from happening. Heard this on the radio about 4am this morning, but was half asleep so possibility it wasn't Steve Bruce or even that it was a dream but I could swear that was the story.

Could be true with Man City reportedly paying someone £200k a week who has yet to prove himself in the PL, its not wonder proven established PL players will have outrageous wage demands

this seems to be an increasingly common theme for us though. Crouch deal fell through over wage demands, Westermann deal has stalled over wage demands and Bruce has all but admitted it's dead.

TBF if I was Stephen ireland, and know that the likes of gareth barry are keeping me out and who is likely to be on 100K plus, it's hardly surprising he'll have huge wage demands. IMO he's a far better footballer, however his options are limited in terms who will want him tghat can afford both the fee and the wages.
    Everton wont.
Arsenal, manure, Chelsea, Spurs dont need him.
He'd do big damage to Vill'as wage structure where lerner is tightening belts.
Liverpool will need to sell before they can buy.
I reckon Citeh will have to give him a sweetener to leave and compensate for wage reduction.

Man City players are on over inflated wages because they keep on bringing new guys on ridiculous wages so the existing players demand rises. Shaun Wright Phillips and his turning down of a £70k per week contract because he wants £100k per week shows what kind of ridiculous figures are running around down there. Ireland had his wages doubled last year to £60k per week rising to £80k per week. I assume he would want more for having to 'drop down' to Sunderland's level.

I could see City chucking him into a deal that would take Torres move the other way mind

So you'd prefer we spend money we cant afford or risk upsetting the wage structure we have in place?
NUFC, Leeds, Pompey, Hull, WHU are all reeling from deals they couldnt afford. I'm happy that my club is being prudent.
I reckon you're wrong about Crouch. It was geography and a higher profile team that swung it. We certainly have no evidence to show it was wages. We made a bid, he came up for a look around and he didnt want it. We would have known clearly ( via his agent ) what his wage demands were prior to him climbing into the plane.
