    Default Lens recommendations

    Hi

I have recently purchased a D70 that came with the standard kit lens. I am heading of to America in a couple of weeks and was looking at buying a couple of lenses whilst I am there (they are pretty cheap)

The problem I have is that I am pretty new to this so I do not really know what lenses I will need, but I cannot turn down the opportunity of getting them cheap. I would assume that to get started I would need a reasonable zoom and a wide angle lens? I have tried reading reviews of different lenses but seem to be going round in circles and am back to square one i.e. I have no idea which lenses to buy.

Could anyone recommend a couple of lenses upto approx £200- £250 each?
Anything else I should put on the 'must have' shopping list?

    Ta

    Steve

I'd say get the Nikkor 50mm f/1.8 (or f/1.4 - if you can afford it) - can get the f/1.8 here in jessops for £104, and cheaper off the internet. It's great for shooting in low light.

Nikon 50mm f1.8 and Nikon 55-200 vr. You could probably get the pair for under £200. They'd be the must haves for me. I'd be inclined to get them, then spend the remainder on a flash (Nikon SB600) and a good tripod.

After that, it comes down to what type of shots you get into. The Nikon 18-200 is brilliant and hugely flexible, and would mean that you could sell your kit lens (you'd get about £70), and obviously wouldn't need the 55-200. Quite pricey, though it's a popular lens so there may be bargains to be had.

The Tokina 12-24 f4 is a superb wide lens, my favourite lens I've used so far - again, it's fairly pricey, but it's pretty amazing value for money too.
