Best league in the world...
Is anyone still peddling this? Surely not
SAFC are NUFC aren't all that far behind the so called top sides in this country
As MON suggests we should forget the inferiority complex and compete

in terms of blood and thunder, close matches, surprise wins and overall entertainment there is still an argument for our league being the "best".
in terms of overall quality and technical ability, this years European competitions have put to bed the myth that we have the best players and teams.

I dont thunk anyone can argue about us having the best teams. We havent for decades.
But players, Im not so sure, if you had a euro championships with players playing for the country they play in, we'd be second, easily. And I only say second because Spain's team play together week in, week out pretty much.

id have to disagree. If you look at Champions league latter stages over recent years English teams have performed very well. The standard has fallen.
id also suggest that it wouldnt be as cut and dry finishing second. The German and Italian leagues still have some very good players.

Dunno really. As you suggest Spain are miles ahead, but I think the Italian and German side would now give us a run for our money
We are going backwards at a rate of knots. Man City are the only top side improving, and they keep losing in europe

Sunderland and Newcastle are miles behind the likes of Man Utd, Man City, Spurs, Chelsea.
How many Sunderland players would get in there starting lines ups if everyone was fit?

Think how far behind we were Man U in 2000, when finishing 7th?
A fucking light year. Think about the gap now. Significant, but not as far. More that they are going backwards, than we are going forwards, I grant you
As the better players drift to other leagues it might just narrow a bit more

At the moment maybe one of our players would get in the starting lines ups of Chelsea, Spurs, Man Utd and Man City. In fact I would say none would, maybe Sess might at a push
So when you think about it the gap is still massive and we just dont have the finances to be able to compete and and hold on to our best players so we could build a squad in the hope of getting close to these
Can you honestly see a day in the next 10 year or so where 4 of our players would get in the starting line ups of Man Utd, Man City, Chelsea etc
I know I cant
