Anyone drive one? Thinking of buying an 08 1.6, but unsure of the reliability, shit in the rain causing electric problems etc?.. Not racist but the frogs usually make poor cars?...

French cars have been the most reliable ones for me. I'm driving a Clio sports tourer at the mo and I absolutely love it. I can't get away with vauxhalls or fords like.

If I were you though I'd be tempted to go around the new car garages to see what you can get. You should be able to pick up something half decent on an 11 plate next cheap next month. Most are offering interest free credit and servicing etc just to get them out of the door.

I've never had a good experience with a second hand car. People get rid of them for a reason.

Sorry for the three replies but seriously NEVER EVER BUY A FRENCH CAR!! Especially a Renault!!

Check out autotrader and see what the majority of the first cars that appear on the list. Yep FRENCH. Cheap as chips because nobody wants the most unreliable cars that money can buy and expensive to fix.

And if you are going to buy one then buy a length of 4x2 to choc up the windows when they drop, which they will.

    FRENCH CARS ARE FUCKING SHITE.

    Have I made myself clear?

I don't think there are any unreliable marques anymore. It's the likes of Land Rover and Mercedes who seem to perform poorly in JD Power surveys these days, not French and Italian cars.

I think I'd have a Renault over a Ford personally. Modern Ford's have cheap feeling interiors imo - all chrome-effect plastics, skinny steering wheels and chintzy fabrics.

Went to have a look at an Alfa Guiletta yesterday, and while I was there I had a look at an 08 Fiat Bravo they had on the forecourt. Really nice looking car and very cheap. Would definitely consider one if I was looking for a low cost family car. Seems the reputation of used Fiats means they're a bargain used, despite being pretty much as reliable as their equivalent Ford or Opel / Vauxhall.
