    Default Knee injury

Playing football yesterday and I've went in for a tackle and aggrivated an old injury to my left knee.

Know if I keep it straight then go to bend it, this leaves me in agony. As does trying to straighten my leg after it's been bent for a few seconds. Literally couldn't sleep through the pain last night, and have been taking painkillers like tic tacs all day.

I've also had anti-arthritis cream on which is meant to relax muscles and joints.

If you were in my position would you go get it checked out at the walk in centre, or just stay on the painkillers?

Any help appreciated, any suggestions that I'm getting my leg amputated, please don't.

Aren't you better off getting an appointment with a physio at your doctors? If you can't wait I'd get to the walk in centre as quickly as possible.

Can you bend the knee at all? Sounds like you've got ligament damage

I've had something similar, and i'm only 19. No need to go to doctors, will only tell you to do the RICE method or similar.

Rest > Ice > Compression > Elevation. Be as good as new in a few weeks.

Tis exactly what it is mate, and i haven't seen the lads knee haha. I've done it once and had plenty other ligament damage to various ligaments all over my body, just do the RICE method and you'll be sorted.

For about 3 seconds, I'm in constant pain even with pain killers, ligament damage is what I'm fearing.

The thing about the walk in centre is I fear they'll x-ray me, see it's not broke then ship me out with more pain killers.

You'll have just strained it mate, i know what you're going through and it fucking nacks, i doubt you'll get a good night sleep either with the pain, but if you do the RICE method is will keep away swelling and also will stop the " pain " once you bend the knee, that's what it's for.

I had something very similar playing Rugby when an 18 clem prop drove his whole weight into my knee when he tackled me, couldn't bend it at all and it turns out it was a ruptured medial ligament.

Get it checked out straight away mate, at least then you don't run the risk of not looking after yourself properly and doing more long term damage to it.

I'd get a physio appointment sorted. If it is just a strain then they'll give you a stretching routine to try when the pain starts to go away.

Cheers for all the input lads, I'll ring the doctors in the morning and just see what they recommend or see if they can give me a physio's number.

    Cheers, BB
