Default 3 year guarantee on laptop - help needed

I bought a Medion Laptop from Aldi a couple of years back which came with a 3 year guarantee.
it's now just over 2 years old and has completely stopped working - it powers up but gets no further than the bios - the HD does not power up at all.
I've been trying to read up on other forums and I'm getting the message that unless the laptop was registered with Medion they get very arsey about the guarantee.
I don't recall anything in the original box stating this and can find no trace of anything in the box.
I do have the original receipt and everything else - including the box that says that it is guaranteed for 3 years

Do I have a leg to stand on legally ???

can't see a problem. you have the original receipt which acts as the guarantee.

you have the box which says 3 years guarantee.

take it back to where you bought it, with the box and receipt, and ask them to deal with it.

was there anything in the documents which said you had to register the product for the guarantee to be valid? i doubt that it would matter - you have proof of purchase and proof of guarantee.

medion might be arsey but that's irrelevant. just go back to aldi with it and tell them to sort it.

Sorry, I completely ignored the part where you said you've had it over 2 years.

I would still go direct to Aldi with your receipt though

I should imagine it would be a good idea to take it back to the shop with the receipt and find out.

Medions own website only gives 12 months warranty.

It's definitely 3 years as that was a big factor in buying it.

Thanks for the help guys I'll pack it up and take it back to the branch that I got it from

I'd feel happier if I knew exactly where I stood legally but hey ho - nothing ventured etc

just thought I'd put my 2 pennies worth in.

back in 2007 I got a laptop from John Lewis, and they provide a 2 year guarantee on computers.

Anyhow, last august, literally a week or so the 2 years ran out, the screen decides to go on the blink. took it back to john lewis.

They took it in for repair.

4 weeks later, Sony informed them that they should replace the laptop.

Got a brand new laptop worth £800 and £100 worth of gift vouchers.

    Thanks for that

I've read elsewhere that Medion get very arsey about warranties and do whatever they can to worm their way out of doing repairs - hence trying to find out what the legal position would be

My concern would be that Medion are not Sony and Aldi are not John Lewis
