Default Recommend me a photo printer!

It's looking like I might need to get quite a few large prints done for an installation in a few weeks time and it might be more cost effective for me to buy a printer and do it myself. I have absolutely no idea where to start! Can anybody point me in the direction of some decent but not too expensive photo printers?

    How large?

I doubt this 'cost effective' idea tbh

    How big is "large"?

I have an Epson R2400 which can print up to A3, it wasn't particularly expensive to buy but as it has 9 ink cartridges it's fairly expensive to run.

I've been very happy with the quality.

Edit: Actually it's got 10 cartridges as there are different blacks for matt or gloss paper.

I'm not sure on the exact scale yet...maybe around 16x20, and there could be up to 20 images to print, as well as several smaller images. It's for an installation for my final Masters thesis. Apparently when my professors suggested a virtual installation what they actually meant was a full-scale gallery job! They were the ones who suggested buying the printer might be more cost-effective. I genuinely have no idea!

Pretty large printer, and pretty expensive inks

Either way, you're looking at a good few hundred $ for good quality, finding a decent local printer is surely better for your needs?

Fair do's. There's a place round the corner that does an excellent job but is a bit pricey. Can you offer me any advice about how I can mount the images so that they look fairly professional but without spending a small fortune? This has all been thrown at me in the last half an hour. I was expecting to just submit it digitally and thought I was pretty much done and dusted!

I find these people who have no time/workload/cost thought processes all the time

Can you do this for tomorrow?

Er, no. And don't bother asking if it costs more than what you asked me to do for yesterday...

I have 2 large format printers that can print up to 1300mm wide by any length, I can print onto almost anything, including Canvas, PVC Banner and self adhesive Vinyl using solvent inks that are UV stable.

However I would reccomend Satin Photo paper for this project of yours.

As a fellow fan I am sure I can do a very good deal for you (if you want) just gimme a PM

That goes for anyone else for that matter too.

I will see what I can do.

Yeah, I'm in Canada unfortunately, otherwise I would have taken you up on that. Looks like I'm going to be stuck at $20 a pop for 16x20 prints.
