    Default Barack Obama

As a wishy washy liberal I obviously think he is brilliant in every way

    But.

His handling of the economy has been suspect
His healthcare reform, while well meaning, have really not pleased the left or the right

And yet, because intelligence happens to come good (conspiracy theories aside) and he made a decision (albeit gutsy) he will pretty much certainly be re-elected.

All that is wrong with modern politics imho

Particularly american politics. We don't quite buy into tub thumping military operations (not to the extent of the Americans). As a rule, we always vote with our pockets. Blairs third election win highlighted this. Iraq was a disaster for him but the country still trusted him more than anyone else to lead a steady economic ship and as long as pounds were in the publics pockets labour were fine. Then brown became PM, dealt with some home affair crises really well (floods and attempted terror attack in Glasgow) but oversaw a banking collapse and recession so was eventually rejected due to people losing money.

I think the Republican candidates on offer would have seen him re-elected anyway tbh

I'm not so sure. He isn't popular right now. And people vote for change rather than the best candidate sometimes

A bit of blood-lust has done wonders for ailing governments in almost forever.

I'm not sure either, I only think that. As you said he's weak now (or was before today anyway) but the Republicans seem unable to cease the advantage. With everything going on, one of the potential candidates could only muster up the whole birth certificate thing, which Obama 'kicked his ass' on

disagree. he pandered to pointless gossip, something that shouldn't ever have been an issue.
