Default The north east and musical talent

Fair to say that over the years we havent produced that much musical talent for a region thats a good size, when you look at your London, Manchester, Yorkshire etc etc then us

Any particular reason or I am I talking bollocks

Whats big bands particular lately have hailed from the north east?

Hardly any bands of note have come from The North East. No idea why.

A subject I am very interested in. I've heard via BBC Newcastle(spit) some decent local bands that deserve more exsposure as the songs are worthy of attention imo. As someone who has been involved in the biz, the NE is overlooked by a&r as a general rule and their efforts go into 'sourcing talent' from the south. If it completely went dead down here, only then would they luck further north.

Sad but, there you have it. If you have any ambitions in Art, you go south because that's where it all is, it's been that way since The Beatles and it's also why they and me moved south all those years ago :)

Speaking from personal experience any lads in my school we showed an interest playing musical instruments would be bullied/kicked in.

The schools did nowt to combat this

Actually, the region isnt that big, population wise. So, we probably punch our weight.

We don't have nearly the same opportunities for musicians here as there are in London, Manchester, Leeds, Sheffield or Liverpool.

It's not a lack of talent, just look at Field Music for what people in the region are capable of, it's a lack of exposure.
