is this a good idea re the world cup?
i read somewhere, cant remember off hand, but someone was suggesting moving the date of the tournament to prior to the season starting, for the vast majority of major nations in the competition
so the likes of england can shut up about tiredness, why not have the tournament, in august and start the season in september?

Because the rich and influential clubs will piss and moan about it upsetting their pre-season training and having tired players in their respective leagues. Nowt wrong with having it when we do, it's not FIFA's fault England can't get their act together. The Spanish team have played a similar number of club games.

Re: is this a good idea re the world cup?
i have been reading that capello is insisting the clubs have a mid winter break. now wenger and fergie back this, so it could happen.
i have no doubt whatsoever, the likes of man utd, arsenal and so on, would play games in malaysia, singapore, america, dubai or whereever during this period for money.
anyway, the players have a stack of natural breaks, for international weeks, as the call off games the weekend before. they must have had at least 8 weeks last season, with all the international game

Winter break is pointless they still have the same amount of games, just tighter spaced each side of the break, tiring them more?

Ze Germans played more games on average last season than their English counterparts.

If they brought it in then there wuld have to be a rule saying that you couldn't do any team activities e.g. training, training matches or friendlies.

i agree but man utd etc etc, run english football.
they got byes out of the early league cup rounds, under the pretence of the "big clubs" playing their established players, yet they use it for reserve team outings. yet still get byes.
they wanted no more than one fa cup replay, one off league cup games etc yet still claim tiredness.
however the champions league, europa league are now in place, which leads to increased games.
they wont allow for it to return to the original of champions only and two legged knock out from round one onwards.
that would reduce games massively for all clubs , so would allow for more rest for the stars

Don't know why they don't put a limit on the amount of games any player is allowed to play in the Premier season to say 28 games it might force the clubs to use their youth players.

Re: is this a good idea re the world cup?
It's all a load of shite.
If a player is so tired, then why are they not asking their manager for a rest for a week or so? Running themselves into the ground is nobodys fault but their own and their managers.
Wonder how many Cup Finals these "tired" players would be prepared to miss?
The whole point of having a squad surely? We don't need breaks in the season (you still have to play the games which will knacker them more when you have to squeeze them in) we just need teams to use their squads more and give players a break if they need it.

Re: is this a good idea re the world cup?
Simple fact is that they are not tired, it's a pitiful excuse as always. Before the World Cup all the talk was that with no Champions League final participation that they should be fitter. The FA Cup final wasn't exactly detrimental either.
