    Default Artificial Pitches Returning???

Maybe SEB but...Dreadful if this happens. Completely unfair. Kept the likes of Luton & Oldham in the top flight for years.

    Opinions being collected here. http://www.zoomerang.com/Survey/WEB22ERJWUK6Y6

I urge all who remember these pitches to vote strongly against this!

It's not like the old style plastic pitches though, they really are far more realistic and less like 5-a-side pitches.

Watched Widnes v St Helens last week and there were a few cuts and scrapes that the home side blamed on the frost.

A lot of ther Widnes players were wearing those 'Skins' tops and apparently quite a few visiting teams are planning to wear the full suit when they play at Widnes

I have played on the new artificial grass and the only thing missing is the smell.

Things have come a long way in the pretendy grass world since those days.

I think they need more artificial pitches like I am describing in youth football. It might give us better technical passing players. At the minute we send 22 young lads to go and play in a mud bath.

Are they suitable to slide on?? Any artificial pitches I have played on still burn and leave grazes from sliding.

I slid in a few times and dove when keeping too. I never ended up with a scratch.

That said, I don't think it really matters now. Sliding tackles are despised in the modern game.

I watch a fair bit of local football at Northern and Wearside league level and I can understand some clubs at that level seeing it as a way of getting some extra income and reducing their groundsman costs, but I watched a game on one of the new 3g pitches (Harton College in South Shields) at the start of the season and it's still nowhere near the real thing and fundamentally alters the way the game is played.

It's a big no from me.

PS - I have seen people calling the pitch at Harton a 4g but I think its only a 3g and the 4g may be better.

Is it just the 3g stuff that you get at Goals and Soccarena? If so, or even if it's slightly better quality than that, it will totally rid the game of slide tackles.
