Anyone know of any good, free DJ software?
Interested in having a little mess about, hone my (lack of) skills in the art of DJing to get me started off.

I think the track search engine is spot on. It is fast as fuck at finding tracks.

I use traktor from Native Instruments and you can get a demo that lasts for a set time before quitting.
Alternatively mixxx is free

Any of these take music you tell it, and actually mix them properly?

I think I did everything right when I loaded the 2 songs I wanted to mix, and I have to admit the quality at which it played my songs were absolutely fucking atrocious. Uninstalled within minutes of installing it.
To be fair though I was probably doing something seriously wrong.

Virtual DJ does. You can make up your own track list and put it on auto mix. It's great for a night in listening to music without having to click buttons all the time. But if the tempo of two tracks are way apart the mix can sound a bit ropey.

If you have absolutely no clue about beat matching, mixing in key, track selection then start with mixmiester fusion and learn about putting music together...its a sequencer so you basically line the tracks up and set the parameters (fade, eq effects etc) it beat matches the tracks for you so you can start to train your ear.
Then step up to a bit of kit that makes you do it all yourself and start with mixing the same track into another copy of itself.
