Default Biggest game; worst performance; typical Sunderland

I have been going on and off since 1980, so am used to seeing us blow (albeit very rare) opportunities to "achieve" any form of success.

I am sure many more on here have been going longer... I am not mad / angry / gutted etc. etc. I fully expected it to go tits up. It's just SAFC reality - we have not had a good side since the 50's (when we blew the league the year Pompey won it).

MON has done great in rescuing us from possible relegation (again!). Mission acomplished for this season.

Moyes has been at EFC for 10 years; MON has been here 10 mins.

We were never going to beat EFC, then LFC then either of Spurs/CFC. That is the plain old reality.

Get a grip, give yer head a shake and we move on. He will have the chance to make his mark on the side next season having had a summer to work on transfers.

When MON arrived if we had been offered a cup run to the 1/4 finals and 40pts by now, EVERYONE would have taken it. Anyone who says they wouldn't are a liar.

I see the point your making, but surely we had more chance aginst Everton, Liverpool and Chelsea/Spurs than the '73 team did taking on opposition from a higher league a couple of times, and then the best team in England at the time.

I think we got a bit arrogant tbh. I dont think we are as good as we think. Think we need to get a sense of reality here. Everton are the better team, not equal. We had a fine cup run.

The only major dissapointment is the manner we got beat on national tv...

People we're getting way to ahead of themselves in this cup thing.

We were garbage but had a good enough team to win tonight (same points as opposition)

They played as though they knew the ropes - been there done that

Tonight we were beaten by a better side. I can totally accept that. The semi final loss to Millwall was far more painful given that we had a better side and were guaranteed Europe if we won.

A trip to Wembley would have been lovely but Europe and a trophy were a very long shot IMO

See this is where I disagree. I think if anything its the opposite and we underestimate our own ability.

The league table doesn't lie. We had a shocking start to the season with a different manager, and are still (Just) above Everton in the league. Went it to tonights match with home advantage and I would say on balance less injury problems then them.

You will never eat at the top table if you consider yourself below that. We had no reason to go in to tonight not expecting to beat them. But there was that malaise around the club. Even there fans were confident.

I dont think its arrogance, to the contrary I think its not having belief in our ability.

As soon as we got Everton in the draw my heart sank; 16 games without a win is not down to bad luck / fluke etc. Moyes worked us out and some of our players froze / had a bad night at the office. Whatever you want to call it.

Let us all be thankful we are safe and let MON have a chance to impose himself on our side over the summer. I am used to too many relegation battles

I cringed at all these "Wembley" posts that have been popping up on here - these young un's /Sky boys just ain't been through the heart-ache and/or don't have a clue about SAFC' last 60 years or so

Better side on the night I completely agree. But not the better team. Thats not sour grapes, just on the basis of 30 games so far this season we are still marginally ahead even with a shocking start under a bad manager.

With home advantage and their injuries we should have been more confident and assertive
