Default Buying a 2nd hand car

    Dear wise SMB,

Looking for some advice on buying a second hand car. I will of course make sure it's got a full MOT and has a full service, but does anyone know of any websites you can use for checking the registration number to see if it's been a write off in the past? The one I'm looking at has really low miles and no service history, but passed an MOT last month. Any way I can check genuine mileage? I'm just trying to make sure that what looks too good to be true, isn't!

    Any advice much appreciated!

If you can have a look at the MOT certificate you can do an MOT history check online...

    http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring...ot/DG_10020539

Says it only gives the history as from 2005 but better than nowt, will give you an idea of what's happened since then. And it's free

Cheers lads. Done an HPI check through the RAC and the 37,000 miles on the clock was 90,000 in June 2011! Not to mention the outstanding finance on it!

    This lot... http://www.cathedralmotorsltd.co.uk....otrader.co.uk/

The car online has no entry against mileage, but the digital clock actually says just over 37,000. If I wasn't such a soft puff I'd go through and tear shreds off the tough looking knuckle dragger!
