Default Star Wars - Geeks - Idiots

Where do you draw the line at what is acceptable 'geekdom' and what is basically just odd behaviour?
I work for a Software Company and accept that there are going to be a high percentage of geeks and nerds working for the company but some don't seem to have any grounding in reality.
Last week someone delivered something to a client that was both late and didn't work. I would normally authorise it before it went out of the door but they circumvented the process and I have to pick up the pieces today.
It appears that the reason it was late and didn't work is that the idiot who sent it spent all his time putting pictures of Star Wars characters on his Test Script instead of Testing it.
How do these people survive in the real world?
