    Default Digital Cameras

    Any recomendations for a digital camera for my wife's birthday? She wants a point and press with good optical and digital zoom, nothing too technical. Around a ton in price.

    What she's really keen on is one which takes the picture when the button is pressed, rather than a second or two later.

    I recently bought an Olympus X-43 from Argos for £80 or £90 and got a 4GB SD chucked in for nowt. Easy to use 14MP - does the job for me.

    At that price I think you're always going to get some shutter lag.

    The other half has a bottom of the range Panasonic Lumix which cost less than that and the shutter lag isn't at all bad on that (with her previous cheapo camera she used to get lots of photos of the ground!).

    It has good optical stabilisation too.

    Its only 3 times optical zoom though and I have disabled the digital zoom!

    digital zoom should be banned

    and on a similar note the viewfinder on my new Nikon p100 is digital... and shite! just as well it's got a nice shiny screen to look at
