Guess you haven't really rated anyone else that has played for Sunderland either then!?

I know football is all about opinions but this is unbelievable - is it a wind up that I have missed?

Have you found some secret way of invisible text rather than the usual white text?

The team is really missing a SS type player at the minute.

Stefan Schwarz was past his best by the time he joined us, in this respect Malbranque is head and shoulders above him.

Don Hutchison's best games for SAFC were when he played wide right for us. Anyone who says otherwise can't have seen him play on regular basis.

No we're not. We are missing some pace. The thought of Schwarz trundling around in our current midfield.........

In my 40 odd years we've never had midfielders with the quality of Malbranque and Richardson these are a different level.

Stef was a calming influence on me, he never seemed to waste a pass. Never a play maker, he would do the work, a bit like Deschamps.

Malbrancq is a class player for me, but in a different role. Wouldn't have mided them together in the same team.

Those 3 plus Don Hutchison (with Winterwasp and Rae on bench) would be a brilliant midfield.

    Schwarz
    Johnstone
    Rae
    Hutchison

All as good as Richardson, and that's only in the last ten years.

Malbranque is probably better than all of them mind, but was a different type of player to Schwarz, he could never play the role that SS did for us.

    I assume you mean Johnston?

He played good in what is now the CCC but failed in the PL with boro.

True he never proved it in the Prem, but he did go a full season (apart from a few loan spells) without any football, and was never the same player after.

Not necessarily agreeing or disagreeing with you on your decision but you said you never rated Schwarz which is slightly different to rating the above two as being better.

He was part of a side that were a Danny Dichio away from going top of the league! I agree he was past his best but still something special and for someone not to rate him is a bit strange.
