Default What's this and what should I do (morally)?

As per another thread, I needed a wide angle lens for one photo for work. I (thought) I had bought one of these:

I paid for it and the bloke then emailed me claiming to have found the lens hood and offered to sell it for another tenner. I decided not to take him up on this and thought the way it was done was a little bit odd.

However, the lens finally arrived and it's this one:

So, what is it, is it any good and how much do they sell for.

Which leads to the next question. If it's worth more than the £30 I paid for it, should I return it to the seller or sell it on myself?

Sounds like it's not a great lens tbh, but neither is the one you tried to buy.

Personally i'd either keep it, or flog it on ebay... one thing I certainly wouldn't be doing is sending it back to him with a note asking for the inferior lens!

Well I suppose one question is: can you use it for the same job you wanted the other lens for originally? If so then keep it, use it, then maybe flog it on if you don't have any further use for it.

I'd also have a look to see if he also has this lens for sale or did have. It's possible he's sent the lens you wanted to someone else too. Not saying what you should do in the circumstances, though it is possible that he does have a right to ask you for it back if it was sent in error (you'd need to check ebay rules), so perhaps don't rush to flog it on. He'd certainly have to cover your costs if he wanted you to do that though, and for the money involved it might not be worth the bother.

Unless he was being a complete dick I would point out the error. As Soprendo says, there is probably some poor sod who bought this lens and will not receive it as a result.

Agree with this, check his other listings see if it was listed and sold to someone else (not sure if possible), they will probably have an 18-55 zoom now that they dont want.

You could search ebay for that lens then select only show completed listings to see if any sold recently and see if your seller sold it.
