Take a walk down to Roker on a match day and trust me, you'll know what once stood there.

There's a blue plaque on one of the houses as well about Roker Park.

When we came back for a weekend stay over to watch the lads at the SoL, we drove where Roker Park once stood. As we approached the New Derby the view seemed wrong, but it was only when we turned to face where the main stand was that the full impact hit us. My wife could not understand why 2 30 year olds and a 50 year old were close to tears and just wanted to leave. I still have not been back.

Everytime I've been down, I'm transported back in time. I can see Charlie Hurley leading the lads out, the game v Man Utd where it was a miracle a tradgedy never occoured, Clough chipping the ball over Jack Charlton's head before superbly volleying in from a good 20 yards out in front of the Fulwell, Vic Halom's goal v Man City in '73, goals from Armstrong and Ball, trademark diving headers from Phil Gray and that free kick from Waddle. I can remember seeing the floodlights flickering into life, climbing up the steps to the back of the Fulwell and seeing a lush green pitch freshly cut. I can still smell the bovril, the stale tobacco and beer, the fresh smell of piss. I can remember holding my youngest lads hand the first time I took him in the Roker End, hugging random blokes after Rowell, Marco, or some 3rd rate player saved us a point against some drab 2nd division team in bleak, freezing conditions. I remember sat on concrete with a tear in my eye with god knows how many other grown blokes after the last game. I remember seeing the Clock Stand with nearly a hundred years history being torn down in such a short space of time.

Just because the ground still doesn't stand there, it doesn't mean the memories fade.

My sentiments exactly except mine go right back to the days of Len Shack.

Shame that more wasn't done to easily show the various crucial locations on the hallowed turf.

My last game was Man U at home, we won 2-1. But I can barely remember the game. All the games I watched at Roker seem to be blurring now. But I remember the ground. The crush in the CSP during the Chelsea Milk Cup semi, the empty spaces of a midweek home game in the 80s. The rage when Trelford Mills called the Liverpool game off at half time. Loosing me car keys when we scored. The pies from the Roker End. The roar as we broke over the halfway line So many memories of a famous and fabulous ground. Having watched games from the 1970s, there wre not too many great games to remember.

It was a shithole in any case, glad nothing remains.

Wish I was alive during times like these.
