One night I had a few beers at the local and went home at about 11:30. I wasn't tired so I put on 3 separate loads of washing to save on the leccy. Between spin cycles I started to jot down on paper what I thought would make me happy in life and eventually I got tired enough to go to bed.

In the morning I was astounded with what I'd done the night before, it was like the 'Elves and the Shoemaker'. I came downstairs to see that the washing had been done and I read what I'd written re: my 'life plan'.

Everything was interconnected. I'd started off with wanting a new job. To do that I'd need to either get a different job in the same profession or to re-train.

To re-train I'd need to save cash or to generate more in order to cope with a dip in salary or to pay for training or university. That led to more ideas about saving and cutting costs. I don't like driving or car ownership so the 'drunken solution' was to commute by train and to cycle to the train station. I wouldn't need a car so I wouldn't get stressed by the commute and I'd save cash!

I'd even wrote something about living closer to the coast and I couldn't find a reason why I couldn't achieve that aim.

In the end I found that it would be up to me to change things. But then I also saw that the 'drudgery' of a mortgage, nagging wife and 2 brats wasn't as bad as it seemed and that often the drudgery is self-inflicted.

You perhaps need to find/make time for you and your Mrs to have a few hours apart each week to pursue your own hobbies, it's a lot easier with 2 parents in the house than doing it on your own after a failed relationship.

If you still get on with each other OK you may need to spice up your relationship a bit! Rememebr that at one point you were excited about getting dressed up and making an effort to meet with her for dates with her! She's still the same person even though her boobs are droopy and she spends too much cash on useless sh!te and watches awful TV.

    Peace.
Quality, one of the best I have read for a while ! and very true.

I still commute to the same job I've had for 12 years!

I spent 5 years living on my own but now shacked up agian and another kid due in November.

But I learned to accept my fate and I still have a lot more opportunities than my parents had.

As you know, you have to make a bit of time for yourself but then allow your other half to have equal freedom.

Also it's never easy with a young kid in the house and Jasper seems to be doing right by devoting his time to his young kid.

It can be a bit boring I s'pose but I get a 12 pack of Peroni each Thursday night after work for £12 and it lasts a week.

Another good idea is to apply for flexible working - I do 4 x 9.5 hours days to reduce the commute and to make more time for DIY, getting nagged at etc.

Good luck, don't be too hard on yourself and put your kid first as it's very rewarding in the long run and they'll appreciate it.

    This.
There's a ten year gap between both of mine so I'm rediscovering the joys of having a young 'un all over again.
And I'd have more if they didn't cost so much.

Lads need their mates sometimes-a good night of craic away from the missus and kids can cheer you up nee end.Sometimes if its like three days away it gives you something to look forward to and those days pass much more smoothly-i can defo say this will work!
