Adhering to financial fair play now is crucial and unavoidable if we want to achieve European football. The rules don't suddenly pop into existence once you are in European competition. They govern how you get there in the first place as well as how you stay there.

There will absolutely be money invested in the team. But money that is already within the budget.

I agree entirely that getting the wage bill down isn't as easy as many hope, but just a point of order, here:

In the last published set of accounts, Gyan's and Riveros' wages were on the wage bill, as were Anton Ferdinand's and Steed Malbranque's, for that matter. The vast majority of McCartney's were too as Leeds didn't contribute much at all to it. When you add Gordon's wage to that, it's a pretty hefty chunk.

Since then of course, Brown and O'Shea have come in and will be earning decent money I am sure. But generally speaking a different wage structure exists at the club now than in the days when the likes of Ferdinand, Gordon, Malbranque, and McCartney signed.

Edit: Last set of published accounts also had the wages for Onuoha and Mensah, which I suspect were pretty hefty.
Its more then that too isnt it? Bent for 6 months? Zenden? Welbeck? Probably others

Aye, was just concentrating on the higher earners really. I'd say there would be room in the wage bill to reduce it a reasonable amount from the last published accounts whilst still signing 2 or 3 quality additions.

With clubs beginning to abide to the laws of Financial fair play I doubt it.

There is another factor that will help us reduce costs for higher quality players. This will be our 6th consecutive top flight season. When we were desperate to stay up we had to sign average players on high wages due to the risk of relegation. This succeeded in keeping us up but now the club needs to push on. Now we have stayed up for a while we can start to attract better players. We can do this without having to pay too much over the odds in wages as we are less of a risk for the player.
