More world wide interest generates more cash and may lead to bigger deals in the future. The bottom line is Short is trying to bring in a lot more cash than we currently bring in.

More cash means we can afford a better quality of player. If we have a better quality of player then we can play better, score more goals, challenge higher in the league and go further in cups. As a supporter, surely you can see the benefit in that.

While it is not 100% nailed on, I can see him trying to raise the profile of our club from one that has been run like a traditional local club to a world wide franchise.

While there is something I love about the way Sunderland is still a very local club, and I hate the term franchise, we have to move with the times. Whenever I have met a Sunderland fan, they have always been from Sunderland, had a parent from Sunderland or one has the nephew of a former player. I have met plenty of Newcastle fans who could not point out Newcastle on a map. However the mags, Spurs and the like all generate more cash than us, we need to change that.

Erm, bit of a tangent/rant there but I hope this makes more sense.

Increasing income is to be applauded but it wont be enough to allow us to invest in a better class of player. For example, Man Utd's deal with Nike was worth $400m over 13 years. Even if we matched that it merely serves to plug the hole in our balance sheet. Or am I wrong?

If 'quality' means McGeady and van Wolfwinkel then he may have a point.

I don't think anyone knows, football finances appear to be a big black bag of mystery.

If we are well sponsored, sell tickets/merchandise, receive TV money and the usual PL cash, then you would assume we have sufficient cash to invest.

If it is all going on wages someone should be shot with shit.
