Adds to competition, and fast bowling is a tough old game
Agree with this, I'd also rest them from the pyjama games as well, let them get a few first class (4 day games) under their belts to keep their eyes in without the distraction of the white ball games so that they're fresh and raring to go when the important stuff against South Africa comes round. To be honest, I couldn't give a fuck if we get steamrollered by the Windies and Australia in the ODIs as long as we win the South Africa test series.

I'd also go with Finn for Anderson, and Onions if we also rest Broad. They could both use another test under their belts.

    I disagree.

We exist (or certainly should do) to win games of cricket and should always be looking to do this.

Resting Anderson was an obvious move. Test cricket is very tough on quicks and he hasnt had a break from it for a good while. There is also no risk as he isnt the type of bowler who needs continuous play to get in the groove so to speak. It will be good to have the leader of our attack fresh and raring to go.

You have a point but Finn is nailed on to start. I doubt the selectors will be thinking too much about the variation of attack as they know whatever they put out will be too strong for the WIndies.

I have literally zero interest in ODI's but its still better to be winning regardless of the version of the game.

I agree it's better to be winning those games, but not if it puts an unnecessary strain on our bowlers. It'll be our bowling attack that's the difference between victory and defeat against SA and if there's a risk that the ODIs could burn them out, it would be better to play Finn, Onions and Tremlett for those and keep our main 3 fit with some first class games ahead of the tests. With the lack of strength of our ODI opponents, those 3 should be more than enough.

the press need to fuck off pestering Andy Flower into his reasonings/selections. We are number 1, he doesn't need to justify himself to pen pushers who probably struggle to hold a cricket bat

Not really sure why the press are getting in a tis over this one at all. Hope Onions gets the nod, but think it will be Finn.

I don't get what all the fuss is about on Sky. It's one test ffs, if he gets injured, what do we do then? We have to play untried players. At least this way the players on the brim get match fitness and experience.

I don't like resting players especially at £63 a ticket for Saturday.

However given the weather I wonder if they consider giving Swann a rest rather than Broad...
